There are multiple benefits of computing for transportation and logistics: - lower cost for consumption and maintenance - geolocalisation - integrated information system - better efficiency - flexibiliy and responsiveness
Information and system needs vary. They included all or part of the following: - an onbaord computer, rugged, readable in bright day light and at night, -
peripherals, connected to the computer: printer, barcode or RFID
reader, or specific needs such as temperature control, weight measure - GPRS / HSDPA communication - GPS localisation, - 12 or 24V power supply, - interface to vehicule, CAN bus / OBD (consumption, speed, gear, stops ..).
For some needs, a simple tracker without interface with the driver will be sufficient. It can also include interface
with the vehicule, communication, registering of input data.
